I use to live in Athens, Greece, I barely left my apartment area. Fortunately I lived in a beautiful part of the depressed city; Kiffissia. I feel bad for what’s going on their at the moment, I can’t imagine the minimum wage going any lower, on a positive note designers are still creating. A couple of places that deserve international mention include 21 Fashion Market and Marianna Stavropoulou. These two are small individual local boutiques that stock up and coming Greek Fashion Labels. I was tossing up whether I should Map their directions or link to their facebook, deciding to choose the later as the internet is a big place and we may as well feel a little bit local.
Ioanna Kourbela is a brand that has been fairly consistent seasonally, bringing out unique designs for both the mature age and young ages (Ioanna stocks with Marianna Stavropoulou). Many of the fabrics used in their 2012 collection are stretchy elastic or heavy wool, showcasing natural colours with the odd electric blue. These contrasts demonstrate the designers edge for difference, guaranteeing that their basic’s will include an edgy cut or special feature. I love that.
Marianna Stavropoulou also stocks a designer called Stelios Koudounaris, I am loving the model he used……
21 Fashion Market is more on the colorful side of life, hosting events and welcoming customers with a big smile. The shop usually stocks a lot of bold colour with felt and leather dominating, generally women’s clothing. Check out one of their recent finds that my nana would totally appreciate; Dimitra Mavrikou’s jewelry at the Meet Market in Athens.
