Effortless Beauty: Dior Cruise collection

20-05-2013

The art of putting every single piece in the perfect place, to master forms and volumes, to rearrange masterpieces with an original zip twist. The art of Raf Simons…
L’arte di trovare l’esatta posizione per ogni singolo dettaglio, la capacità di padroneggiare al meglio forme e volumi e di reinventare i classici aggiungendo il tocco inaspettato di una zip. L’arte di Raf Simons…

Every single piece of Dior‘s cruise collection represents whats I would call effortless beauty, like if Raf Simons was born to design it. But at a deeper glance it is visible that is exactly the contrary. The greatness of this collection is the process, is everything that the iconoclast Simons is doing to readapt his art and fit it into Dior’s canons. It’s the designer challenging himself and working with materials he never liked, like the lace. A challenge that Raf Simon is winning collection after collection, while he redefines and relaunch Dior’s esthetic. Chapeau.

Chapeau.

Give your neck what it deserves!

I had the luck of stumbling upon her work at the showrooms of Somerset House during London Fashion Week and instantly fell in love with the elusive qualities that made her line of luxury accessories seem unique and different in so many ways. Soft silk scarves, big furs and gloves made out of the finest leather ornate with studs that add a rock element, take her collections to a league of their own – the ultimate choice for comfort and quality.

Jane Carr has graduated Central Saint Martins with an MA in Fashion, and during her years there she has won the International Wool Secretariat Prize and was subsequently picked by Donatella Versace to work in-house with her in Milan as head of printed textiles for womenswear for four years.
Since its launch back in 2005, the brand has been heralded as a much-coveted cult-label by international editors and has since expanded in being sold in major department stores all across the world, from Colette in Paris to New York’s Henri Bendel and Bergdorf Goodman and, of course, London’s finest, Harrods and Selfridge’s.
A London-based label dedicated to creating hand-finished luxury products that stand out because of their high quality, beautiful vibrant colours and above all, its distinctive signature prints. Limited edition accessories in the best of fabrics and highest quality production

Jane Carr is also a favourite among the stars, from celebrities like James Franco and Jude Law, who supports her men’s line Jane Carr Homme, to leading ladies

like Mad Men’s January Jones, Eva Green and Sarah Jessica Parker.
Her latest women’s collection for A/W 2013-14, entitled “Shot in the Dark” is created with influences from Millepied’s choreography for “Black Swan” and stories of diamond mines in Stalin’s USSR. Animated by this untold story of the sinister side of a Russian showgirl, the line draws particular attention to accessories that refer to the Russian culture like gloves and furs all finished with the nicest of trims, but still exuding the ominous air of this shadowy story.
Mad Dogs & Englishmen
This year also marks a major milestone for the label as their first men’s capsule line in collaboration with Selfridge’s launches in July. Taking its name from a song written by Noël Coward, the collection is inspired by the mods and rockers of the Brighton promenade and the media coverage of the fights of 1964, which defined the British fashion scene, as we know it today.

Playing Favourites

I am currently bewitched by the Panda Carré scarf. It comes in nine different colours and the only reason I don’t own it yet is because I haven’t decided which one I like better. Would you go for the classic black and white with just a hint of colour? Or would you prefer a more pop version with bright shades of red, green and orange? Or perhaps one of the softer pastels with the mint hues and blue shades?

BOND, JAMES BOND
Unmistakably British
The name is James Bond and the code 007. Read our take on how James Bond rose to fashion icon status over the years and most importantly why Craig does it best.
Written by our film enthusiast, Joanna

With his tailored suits and his fancy cars, his Eton education and, of course, his non-traditional good looks, James Bond has become a fashion icon for our generation and the ones that came before us. Join me in this journey as I analyze the stuff spy rockstars are made of.

Perception is everything. Bond is the kind of man that’s surrounded by this dark air of thick undefined mystery and masked in a veil of sadness that seems permanently resident in his beautifully sculpted features. You want to find out his story; you think that if you could talk to him and you got him to open up then he would be yours forever. Newsflash, he never will be. He is a free spirit, an untamed man. He might open up, give you a piece of the puzzle and then move on to share another piece with the woman that comes after.

First of all there is no “right” or “wrong” Bond, from Sean Connery to Pierce Brosnan, for me He is not a face, but rather an idea, a timeless idea of the man who defies all logic for his irreconcilable love of country. The dark matter that defines him is not in how he looks like, but rather how he carries himself. Daniel Craig is a perfect example of British style and grace so I fail to understand how hair colour or built (is there such thing as being too “buff” to play Bond?) would ever get in the way of him living up to his true potential as 007. He, as well as all the actors that came before him, were carefully selected because of their ability to convince that they deserve the part.

I can’t hide the fact that Craig was in fact my first… Bond, that is. In the past I had been too much of a girly girl to care too much about spy films. But back in 2006 when Casino Royale came out it seemed like an obligation to watch it and I instantly fell in love. It is partly the fact that Martin Campbell, as a director, chose to go back to the roots and present a Bond that is more human, more fragile and thus, leave the audience wanting to get more of an insight as to why he turned out the way he did. His was a Bond with a past, an internal life, so accurately yet subtly portrayed through his sensational performance. If Casino Royale was the introduction, then with the most recent addition to the Bond series, Sam Mendes’s Skyfall, we have definitely moved on to the main subject of why Bond is as broken as he is.

We trace the steps back to the Scottish highlands, to the old mansion where he grew up. James Bond is a man scarred by the untimely death of his parents and chooses to cling himself to the one constant in his life, his love for his country, a love that is still unclear who has managed to instill in him. He is a soldier, “orphans often make the best recruits” as M points out during the course of the film. A fighter with nothing to lose; he is a quiet observer of the game and manages to always make the best moves.

In all the different Bond portrayals, the red thread that runs throughout the concept are the sartorial moments that never fail to captivate the audiences of all ages. Bond will always be an icon with his image slightly evolving around the cultural shifts of the time. His image as sir Ian Fleming has envisioned him, an ex-military man from the war years, has gradually evolved to this aspirational figure of masculine elegance. Craig is arguably the best modern 007 incarnation, showing the very best of British tailoring.

Achieving to maintain the perfect balance between modern aesthetics and classic cuts, costume designer Lindy Hemmings sought to reinvent Bond while also maintaining his incomparable style. The trick with dressing Agent 007 mainly lays on the fact that the films are intended to be timeless, so there is a demand that the styles depicted follow that same idea and can’t easily be referred to as dated.

A shift towards hard-edged sophistication, a charm that goes beyond the shaken martini, each suit – ordered multiple times for action sequences – was sourced from places Brioni Roma in Italy or Turnbull and Asser, whilst the shoes came from bespoke London-base cobbler John Lobb; even the underwear were made specifically by Sunspel in Nottingham. But the results were worth it – Daniel Craig is by far the best-dressed Bond to this day.

With signature appearances like the La Perla blue swimming trunks that auctioned for £44,000, he has undeniably become a symbol for men’s style. Whether he chooses to appear relax in a getaway with one of his latest conquers or in the field in a three-piece suit, he is always perfectly put together wearing the finest clothes. Yet you see no woman, except perhaps Vesper Lynd, choosing his attire, the decisions are always his and boy does he know what to wear…

I love Barcelona

Cos polo-shirt, Topman shorts,  Supreme cap, Balenciaga classic city bag and Dr. Marten boots

Last week I was in Barcelona, one of my favourite cities, for the launch party of Wonder Projects.
I don´t normally tend to extend my stay when I travel for work but this time I had a few free days
ahead of me and decided to explore the city a little further with the boys (Gerard and David). We had
countless yummy brunches, mojitos at magical locations, dinners at wonderful places, some shopping
and, finally, some time off. I hope you all had a great weekend, and a great week ahead!
