People to Watch – Sean Vegezzi #376

January 15, 2013 in Insider

I remembered a few months back I got an invitation to attend this book launch for a guy who was the same age as me. I thought it sounded pretty awesome and had every intention of going but - life got in the way. Fast forward two months and I'm standing in my favourite gallery in the Lower East Side, The Hole. The girl in the shop starts asking me about what I do, I tell her, she then reaches behind me and pulls out a book, "You'll like this. He's a young guy and he...". Before she finished I started screaming like an excited child who had just eaten a truck load of cotton candy and morphed into the incredible hulk. In the most polite way I snatched the book from her hands and said, "I'll buy it".

What's so exciting about this book you ask? Well it's by a guy called Sean Vegezzi. He's born and raised in New York, and has an exceptionally good eye for documentary photography. Since he's been able to hold a camera he's documented he and his friends growing up in the city. The focus for the book is on teenage adolescence and exploring places in New York that are no longer accessible to the public - namely the forgotten subway stops. This may not seem like anything new, but if you consider the guys age (22) and the quality of his photographs, along with the very contemporary design and layout of the book then it's easy to see why this is some next level biz-ness. I look at this book and only hope to make something that comes mildly close. It's exceptional. End of.
Also if you become a little bit obsessed like I am then check out this interview he did with MoMA.

SPORTS LUXE IN SUMMER.

December 3, 2012 in Insider

I've finally given in. I'm embracing the cap and I like it.

At first I wasn't so sure about it. I liked the look of them on other people but never felt like I could quite pull it off.

When I finally got my hands on a pair of these Hansen & Gretel shorts on the weekend it just seemed like a natural progression. These shorts, a white tee and this cap make for the perfect weekend outfit but this time I decided to dress it up a bit more with my new Ellery top.

Fossil Charms

November 23, 2012 in Insider

Earlier this afternoon, I had the absolute pleasure of meeting Danielle and the team over at the Fossil Store in Bondi Junction.

The reason for my visit was to check out the adorable range of Fossil Charms, which consisted of both a very wide selection of their standard charms (that are available all-year round), as well as their limited edition seasonal charms which have been released just in time for Christmas.

Thanks to the generosity of the team, I was also invited to personally create a piece for myself and actually get the complete shopper’s experience. As you can see here, the range of Fossil Charms is quite extensive making my decision to choose just the three not quite as easy as you’d think! After playing around with multiple charm/bracelet combinations, I finally decided upon the following three:

1. Instant Camera Charm

2. Gumball Machine Charm

3. Suitcase Charm

I’ve definitely got my eye on the World Peace Charm too, so I might just have to make another visit to one of their stores soon and add it to my new-found collection.

How about you – which charms tickle your fancy?

Maurie & Eve AW’13: Paradis Noir

October 25, 2012 in Insider

Images via Golightly PR/Maurie & Eve

Thanks to the lovely Maja, I spent a very warm and sunny morning mesmerising over Australian label, Maurie & Eve‘s AW’13 collection: Paradis Noir.

According to M&E, Paradis Noir represents two personalities – both the dreamy girl who turns to all things pretty and feminine, and the fashion forward girl who dares to be different and isn’t afraid to confidently express her contemporary style. The range is a natural evolution for the label moving from the Summer’s brightness and frivolity to a gloomier and thoughtful collection.

My favourite piece from the collection? That bamboo weave printed vest you see 15 seconds into the video. Yep, definitely adding that one to the wishlist!

Paradis Noir will be available to purchase from February 2013, which realistically – isn’t too far away at all since we’re only 8 weeks out from Christmas (can you honestly believe it?)!

The Weekly Wrap – Photoshoot, Back in NYC, & Crazy people #283

October 15, 2012 in Insider

Poor Sarah gets to be my puppet all the time. Today I made her stand in the middle of the road down in SoHo. Great photo though right? And that Benetton jumper is just magical.
1. Got back to NYC. I feel like I exist in the world again. As I described to Hayree on Skype, "Going to Washington DC for 2 weeks is like when you go tramping in the bush with no communication to the real world". In short, it's fun to begin with but then you're like, "Give me my tall white mocha, a working internet connection, the sound of sirens, a view of the Empire State Building, a New York Times, and a whole lot of sleeping pills."
2. The comment on this post made my day. Thank you!
3. I read this and appreciated how much goes into making an album. Dayyuum Lance.
4. One of the most disturbingly hilarious things happened to me when I went out in Queens (cue the shudder) the other night. The party we went to was great and it was so good to catch up with friends. However, as we were waiting at the train platform to go home (it was about 3am) this girl walks past me crying. I was being a nice person and asked if she was ok. This is what followed:
Me: "Are you ok?" [concerned look on my face complete with the 'sad eyebrows'].
Girl: [sobbing] "Nooo"
Me: "Ohhh. Do you want a hug?" [just trying to be nice].
Girl: [Nods her head]
Me: [I lean in to give her a hug]
Girl: waaaaaaaAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH [the Kim Kardashian ugly cry goes here].
And because I cant handle serious situations (and because I was a little tipsy) I started laughing - like really laughing. Then this happened:
Girl: [completely out of the blue] "Do you know Rhonda?"
Me: [more confused than the disciples when Jesus was resurrected] "Huh? What? Ah no."
Girl: "Because she just ruined my night and said she is sleeping with my boyfriend. To. My. Face"
Me: [I stand there still confused] "Oh. No I can't say I've met Rhonda."
Girl: "Like why would she do that?!"
Me: Judging by her very traditionalist demeanor I reply, "She's a devil worshipper." [Trying not to laugh]
Girl: [nods head]
We were all very confused as to what was happening right infront of us, but it wasn't to end there. The girls boyfriend then appeared. Picture a lanky tall, pale, white male - similar to Napoleon Dynamite - but with a peodo moustache. I couldn't help impulsively blurting out, "Tina eat the ham!". They then got on the same train with us. All I can say is awkward tortoise. It was a night to remember.
5. I made Sarah pose in the middle of the road for a project I've got coming up. Check the picture above. Such fun.

Fashion Bloggers Interview: In a Blonde World

September 26, 2012 in Insider

Let's continue our journey in the Fashion Blogger's world with a new amazing blogger:
Thekla from In a Blonde World.
Hi Thekla, how would you define your style? My style can be defined as feminine, ladylike and chic but I often try to engage a rock attitude to my outfits.
What inspired you to start a style blog? What motivates you to keep blogging?  Creating a style blog mainly derived from my enormous love and passion for fashion, which I have had from a very young age. Actually one significant factor that keeps me passionate about blogging is the love and support that I get daily from my readers. The fact that I can positively influence and inspire other people keeps me motivated not only to improve myself but also create more original ideas.
What was the best comment you ever received from a reader? A comment that really touched me was from a lovely reader who wrote that she reads my blog daily and that she is inspired by my style and the tips I give.
Who/What inspires you? Mary Kate has been my fashion idol since like ever. Her style is contradictive and I adore the way she combines diverse outfits creating different styles.
What are your favourite pieces in your wardrobe? A leather trench coat is definitely one of my ultimate favourites and I believe is a must have for this season. I would also not get by without my Louboutin heels for a great night out.
What is your top fashion tip? My advice would be not to be afraid to combine let’s say for example edgy spiked jackets with romantic ladylike dresses. BE UNIQUE!
For you, what is the world’s most fashionable city? Milan is a major inspiration being one of the more artistic and stylish cities and in my opinion a major influence of the fashion world.
